Project: Relocation of offices in Kensington

BCL has undertaken an intriguing and interesting challenge for any commercial relocation specialist. Our task was to relocate all our clients IT Equipment, Filing and effects between two locations in Kensington. Sounds Fairly straightforward, but nothing could be further from the truth!

 

Black Sun, leading marketing and communciation specialists, were based in a studio premises along the Kings Road, in the Heart of the Chelsea and Fulham Community. The first floor access was arkward to say the least: via an external metal spiral staircase then across a cobbled yard completely surrounded by residential premises.

 

Black Sun were moving into Fulham Place, a grade 1 listed building which naturally had to remain open to the general public whilst relocation was in progress.

 

An initial planning meeting was undertaken with the client by BCL’s Regional Manager Robin Moody and central London Planning Consultant, Daren Saunders, to determine exact timings, sequence and details for the move day. Careful consideration was given to the trials of the building access and the risks associated with moving into a grade I building that is open to the public. Everything was going fine until we realised that on the chosen move day a wedding would be in progress in the Courtyard!

 

Having adjusted our schedule to accommodate someone else’s ‘Big Day’, we discovered that that the local premiership team, Fulham, were playing at home to Liverpool on the same day as the decant. Great! - BCL now had a mere 25,000 football supporters to contend with on and around the streets of Craven Cottage, which was also less than quarter of a mile away from our delivery address.

 

After a series of prompt conference calls between the client, our Planning and Operations Managers, BCL were able to provide the flexibility to accommodate changes in the move schedule, working closely with IT teams and other contractors to deal with the “moving goalposts!”

 

We are delighted to report that the relocation was completed to the total satisfaction of our client: On-time and on-budget.

 

Flexibility by both parties is key during a commercial move, to positively and continuously adjust to the changing features of a business relocation and this project was an excellant opportunity for BCL to demonstrate our award winning performance.
